BlackBerry’s Commitment

to Your Privacy

Security is what we do; privacy is what you get.

That pledge has been part of BlackBerry’s DNA from the beginning. We hold more security approvals and certifications than any other mobile solution, and our software and hardware is trusted by many millions of users around the world, from regular consumers to world leaders.

Privacy has always been at the core of how BlackBerry does business, and built into our products from the ground up. We’ve supported encryption in our phones since 2004. Our first Android phone, PRIV, is encrypted by default, and also hardened to prevent hacks. And we never build backdoors in our devices or software.

While we believe that the privacy of our customers is sacred, we also believe that companies, like individuals, bear responsibility to be good citizens and help thwart crime and make society safer. So our commitment to privacy does not extend to criminals or terrorists. The greater good, we believe, is more important than potential short-term hits to our reputation.

At the same time, we will not compromise on security, and we will not play fast and loose with your privacy. Besides never building backdoors in our devices or software, we have moved to exit countries where governments make requests to us without following appropriate legal processes, and this is something we will continue to do in the future. Your personal information is yours and yours alone, and we will do everything in our power to protect it.

You have a right to understand what that protection involves. That’s why I am writing to you here, and why I encourage you to read our Privacy Policy, as well as our Lawful Access principles.

Security and privacy will always be a part of BlackBerry’s DNA, and we are committed to providing you the best of both. Alongside productivity, they’re the foundation of every one of our products, from our smartphones to our enterprise software. And as we move from mobility towards a connected world, we’ll continue keeping your information safe, secure, and – most importantly – private.

Because that’s what we do.
