Business Challenge
- The Licensing Act 2003 made a larger range of premises eligible to serve alcohol and made opening hours more flexible. This change in legislation increased complexity for the licensing officers
- Licensing officers can be called out at any time of the day or night to assist the police
- To ensure the new legislation was implemented efficiently, licensing officers needed real-time access to license records in the field
Solution
- Deployed BlackBerry® smartphones to the licensing team, allowing mobile access to the CAPS UNI-form back end system
- The devices gave the team mobile, real-time access to license records whilst in the field
Results
- Licensing officers are able to go to inspections with up-to-date information
- The BlackBerry smartphones give the team live and instant access to the system
- The teams are now more flexible and responsive
